The deadliest US city in 2016 was San Francisco, with an average of 817.2 deaths per 100,000 residents, according to a new study from researchers at George Mason University and the University of Maryland.
But the deadliest city in America in 2016 wasn’t San Francisco; it was the city of Atlanta, with a staggering 568.8 deaths per million residents.
Atlanta had the most deaths per capita in the US in 2016 with an estimated 6,869.5 deaths per 1,000 people.
In addition, the city with the most murders in 2016 had an average murder rate of 7,914 per 100 and a violent crime rate of 863.9 per 100 people.
Atlanta ranked fifth in 2016 in the number of homicides and 10th in the murder rate, with 1,054 homicides and 1,073 murders per 100 million people.
