Oklahoma City earthquake magnitude 6.2 magnitude ‘shocks’ biggest quake ever, Oklahoma’s largest quake to hit the US, CNN

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, US – An earthquake magnitude of 6.5 that shook the central Oklahoma city of Oklahoma City on Friday morning sent buildings toppling over, a second building collapsing and people scrambling for cover, the US Geological Survey said.
More than 80 people were injured in the quake, which struck near the Oklahoma City International Airport, and a total of 17 people have been killed.
The magnitude-6.2 earthquake struck just after 8:00am local time (02:00 GMT), said USGS.
It was the strongest quake to strike Oklahoma in more than 30 years.
A preliminary magnitude-7.8 earthquake also struck near Oklahoma City and was felt in many parts of the state, the National Weather Service said.
The Oklahoma City area has experienced more than a dozen large earthquakes in the past 10 years, with more than half of the quakes occurring in the city.
“The magnitude 6 earthquake is a reminder that the U.S. is not immune to earthquakes, but the Oklahoma city earthquake is the largest to strike the United States since 1995,” Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin said in a statement.
The epicenter was located about 150 miles (240km) west-northwest of Oklahoma city.
The USGS said the epicenter of the quake was about 1,000 feet (305m) below the surface.
The shaking was felt across the region.
In a separate report, the BBC reported that a second earthquake measuring 6.4 magnitude struck near Bakersfield, California, at about 8:30am local times (05:30 GMT).
A man was taken to hospital with minor injuries and damage to his car, it added.
Bakersford, California – An 8.0 magnitude earthquake struck the town of Bakersburg, California at about 9:00pm local time on Saturday, the California Department of Water Resources (CalWR) said.
Another quake measuring 6-7 magnitude struck the city of San Marcos, California on Saturday morning, the CalWR said.
A 5.8 magnitude earthquake was felt near the city and was a “strong but minor earthquake”, it said.
San Marcos is just about a 15-minute drive from Bakersberg.
A 5.7 magnitude earthquake hit the town and a 7.1 magnitude quake was felt by about 20 people.
The epicenter is about 15 minutes away from the Bakersville city of Bakerstown, according to CalWR.
More than a thousand people were evacuated from Bakerberg, the town’s main airport, the Bakerstein Daily Times reported.
The airport is on the northern edge of the city, the paper reported.
